International Scientific Conference “Forests in Science, Practice and Education” – 100 years of the Faculty of Forestry in Warsaw
The history of the Faculty of Forestry goes back to the 19th century, but formally the Faculty was established in 1918. Since then, the Faculty has carried out scientific research, contributed to the development of science, and educated staff for the needs of forestry practice. It has been always open to world trends and international cooperation. On the occasion of the upcoming centenary of the Faculty of Forestry we are glad to organize a scientific conference to commemorate this important anniversary. A hundred years is a long time in human history but only a medium period in the life of a forest. Nevertheless, during this time, changes have accelerated in both human needs and demands as well as in the condition of the natural environment.
The conference focuses on the changes that forestry and forests have undergone over the last 100 years and aims to assess the current state of forest science, education and management in relation to sustainable development. We would like to define the role of forests in the modern world and the threats to them with regard to the production of goods, protection of the environment and nature conservation. The crucial questions are: how forest science responds to present and future challenges, how education transfers knowledge and how it is implemented in practice on a local and global scale.
We cordially invite you to participate in the conference to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Faculty of Forestry, Warsaw University of Life Sciences.
